How to Care for Dry Skin

Dry, tight or flaky skin can make your complexion feel uncomfortable and look uneven. If you have ever wondered how to care for dry skin on the face or why your skin feels rough even after moisturising, the answer usually starts with your skin barrier.

Your barrier protects against moisture loss and environmental stress. When it becomes weakened, hydration escapes and irritants get in. Restoring balance takes consistency, the right ingredients and a little patience, but your skin will respond.

Why Your Skin Feels Dry

Dryness is a sign that your skin is missing essential oils or hydration. This can happen for many reasons:

  • Cold weather, low humidity and indoor heating
  • Long, hot showers that strip natural oils
  • Cleansers that are too harsh
  • Ageing and a natural decline in lipid production
  • Dehydration or certain medications

Understanding what causes dry skin helps you make changes that rebuild and protect your barrier.

Dry Skin vs Dehydrated Skin

Dry and dehydrated skin can feel similar, but they are not the same.

Dry skin lacks oil. It often feels rough, tight and may appear flaky. This skin type benefits from richer textures and ingredients that restore the natural lipids your barrier needs to function properly.

Dehydrated skin lacks water. It can affect any skin type, even oily skin, and often appears dull or lined because of a temporary lack of moisture. Hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin help attract and hold water within the skin.

Knowing the difference helps you choose the right approach: hydration for dehydrated skin, and moisture plus barrier support for dry skin.

Why Is My Skin So Dry Even When I Moisturise?

If you are using a moisturiser but your skin still feels tight or flaky, your barrier may not be retaining moisture effectively. Moisturisers can only do so much if the deeper layers of your skin are dehydrated.

Focus on layering hydration. Use a serum with hyaluronic acid to draw in moisture, followed by a cream rich in emollients and barrier-repairing ingredients. Applying products while your skin is still slightly damp helps to seal in hydration.

How to Care for Dry Skin on the Face

A smart routine keeps hydration in and irritation out. Here is how to build one that restores balance and comfort.

1. Cleanse Gently

Start with a non-stripping cleanser that removes impurities without leaving your skin tight. Look for textures that melt into the skin and contain nourishing oils or lipids. Our Essential Fx Acyl-Glutathione Chia Cleansing Balm melts away makeup and daily build-up while conditioning the skin to keep it soft and supple.

2. Replenish Hydration

Hydration should come from both water-binding and barrier-protecting ingredients. Hyaluronic acid draws in moisture, while niacinamide and peptides help improve elasticity and support repair. Our High Potency Hyaluronic Intensive Hydrating Serum delivers deep hydration with four forms of hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to strengthen and plump.

3. Moisturise with Care

Follow with a nutrient-rich cream that helps your skin hold onto the moisture you have just added. Our High Potency Hyaluronic Intensive Moisturiser is formulated with multiple molecular weights of hyaluronic acid and firming ingredients to smooth texture and support barrier function.

4. Protect Every Day

Hydration means little without protection. UV exposure and pollution can weaken your barrier and increase dryness. Always use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher in the morning and reapply throughout the day.

Your Daily Routine

Morning

  • Cleanse with a gentle, pH-balanced formula.
  • Apply a hydrating serum to restore moisture.
  • Follow with a rich moisturiser to seal it in.
  • Finish with SPF 30 or higher.

Evening

  • Cleanse to remove makeup and impurities.
  • Use your hydrating serum again.
  • Apply moisturiser to support overnight recovery.

For visibly smoother, more comfortable skin, our Dry Skin Bundle combines these essential steps in one simple routine. Cleanse, hydrate and moisturise with targeted formulas designed to support the skin barrier and restore long-lasting hydration.
